Comme le signale le biologiste Claude Dendaletche,&nbsp;<em>\u00ab\u00a0ces oiseaux, par leurs comportements, modes de vie, ont en effet suscit\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9laboration de croyances et de rites\u2026 En effet quel animal incarne mieux que les vautours cette r\u00e9alit\u00e9 : la vie n\u2019existe que parce qu\u2019elle est permise par la mort\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Dans la partie la plus montagneuse de la province de Soule, il existait des exemples saisissants de chants sans paroles,&nbsp;<em>\u00ab\u00a0basa ahaideak\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>&nbsp;\u00e9voquant le vol de rapaces. Les deux plus connus sont&nbsp;<em>\u00ab\u00a0Belatxa\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>&nbsp;(l\u2019\u00e9pervier en souletin) et&nbsp;<em>\u00ab\u00a0Arranoa\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>&nbsp;(l&rsquo;aigle ou le vautour ?). D\u2019apr\u00e8s les t\u00e9moignages recueillis aupr\u00e8s de leurs interpr\u00e8tes, ils \u00e9voqueraient le d\u00e9sir de l\u2019homme de s\u2019envoler vers le soleil \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re des rapaces cit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Bien entendu les rapaces n\u2019ont pas ici aussi plus qu\u2019ailleurs \u00e9chapp\u00e9 \u00e0 des pr\u00e9jug\u00e9s et \u00e0 des croyances qui leur ont co\u00fbt\u00e9 maintes pers\u00e9cutions et destructions. Ainsi certains rapaces ont-ils \u00e9t\u00e9 chass\u00e9s. Les anciennes cartes postales des tableaux de chasse de vautours fauves \u00e0 la Rhune sont l\u00e0 pour nous le rappeler.<\/p>\n<p>Ces pers\u00e9cutions ne devaient pas uniquement \u00eatre l\u2019oeuvre de chasseurs de passage. L&rsquo;ethnologue Txomin Peillen souligne dans ses travaux men\u00e9s sur la tradition de la chasse dans la province de Soule que les faucons, \u00e9perviers et milans pouvaient \u00eatre pris dans des pi\u00e8ges ou tir\u00e9s mais qu\u2019en revanche les populations locales se refusaient \u00e0 tuer les \u00ab\u00a0petits et grands aigles\u00a0\u00bb, les vautours et le percnopt\u00e8re d\u2019Egypte en particulier. Cela portait malheur et ces oiseaux \u00e9taient de toute mani\u00e8re consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme de amis des bergers. Jean Barat\u00e7abal berger souletin dans les Arbailles durant la premi\u00e8re guerre mondiale t\u00e9moigne de cette \u00ab\u00a0utilit\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb des vautours :&nbsp;<em>\u00ab\u00a0Les vautours tournant en rond dans le ciel indiquent l\u2019endroit o\u00f9 se trouve une b\u00eate morte ou malade. Dans ce cas on peut la ramener sur nos \u00e9paules dans notre petit abri attenant \u00e0 l\u2019olha\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>De nos jours, l\u2019application du cadre juridique de protection de la nature et le regain d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat de l\u2019opinion public pour les questions environnementales semblent \u00e0 pr\u00e9sent peser de tout leur poids sur les rapports hommes-rapaces. De v\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9s, craints, ha\u00efs ou d\u00e9consid\u00e9r\u00e9s les rapaces sont devenus prot\u00e9g\u00e9s ce qui en en soit un bien pour le maintien et le d\u00e9veloppement de leurs populations. Il est cependant tout aussi important que ces oiseaux soient consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme un bien commun \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble des habitants du pi\u00e9mont basque. Claude Dendaletche biologistak dionez,\u00a0<em>\"txori horiek, beren bizimolde eta jarreren bidez, eragin dituzte hainbat sineste eta errito... Izan ere zein xorik adieraz lezake saiak baino hobeki errealitate hau : heriotzak du bizia ahalbidetzen.\"<\/em>\r\n\r\nXiberuko parte menditsuenean, kausi zitezkeen kantu harrigarri batzuk, hitzik gabekoak, \"basa ahaideak\" deituak, harraparien hegalaldiak itxuratzen zituztenak. Kantu horietarik bi ezagunenak : \"Belatxa\" eta \"Arranoa\". Bildu diren lekukotasunen arabera, kantu horiek adierazten dute jendearen gogoa hegaldatzeko zeruan, aipatu harraparien moldean.\r\n\r\nAlabainan, harrapari horiek Euskal Herrian ere, beste tokietan bezala, irudi, aurreiritzi , itxura eta sineste ezkor eta txarren biktimak izan dira; hori dela eta, jendearen mendekua ere sufritu dute. Harrapari zenbait ihiztatuak eta hilak izan dira, argazki zahar zenbait lekuko ditugu Larrun aldean egin sarraskiez.\r\n\r\nSarraski horiek ez zitzaizkien bakarrik kanpotik etorri ihiztariei zor, dudarik gabe. Lehen, harrapariak beldurgarriak izaten baziren, mespresatuak, gaurregun babestuak dira, eta hori, berez, gauza ona da xorien zaintzeko eta beren garapenerako.
